About UsKingfisher Systems, Inc., was founded in 2005, by Harry (Pete) M. Howton, Joseph Swick, Roy L. Reed, Jr., and David Crawford as a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB). Prior to the creation of Kingfisher, Howton and Swick were the CEO and President of Grayhawk Systems, Inc., respectively, which was subsequently sold to ManTech International Corporation prior to the establishment of Kingfisher. Kingfisher started as a company focused on providing both professional services and information technology services in support of the U.S. Intelligence Community. By 2009 Kingfisher had grown to more than 45 people with contracts with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF); Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI); Transportation Security Administration (TSA); Department of Homeland Security (DHS); Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI); Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA); and other agencies. In 2005, Kingfisher acquired WJB Associates, which had approximately 15 people operating in the Intelligence Community space. This became the basis upon which Kingfisher started to build and expand its business. At about the same time, Kingfisher won its first significant solicitation when it became among the 40 companies which were awardees on the GSA Government Wide Acquisition Contract for Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Businesses (VETS GWAC) to provide IT services to the U.S. government. The connection between Kingfisher, Grayhawk, and Mantech has continued since Kingfisher was launched via a Mentor-Protégé agreement which has been in place between Mantech and Kingfisher since its launching. In addition to Mantech, other early and lasting relationships have been built between Kingfisher and Chenega Federal Systems, Lockheed Martin, CACI, and the Institute for Physical Sciences. Each of the principle owners of Kingfisher have a military background and are disabled veterans. The corporate staff also includes key personnel who have a history of distinguished military and government service. In addition to this previous service, members of the company’s corporate structure continue to remain engaged with the federal government and the Department of Defense in particular by providing consulting services to senior federal government personnel and through the publication of articles in professional periodicals.
